Hi! How have you been? I've missed you!

I am back home now after 3 weeks in Austin Texas. I was away visiting

my very best friend, she is an amazing artist who designs jewelry and

glass sculpture. It was exciting and inspiring to spend time with her.

We played in her studio, had Texas adventures, we saw Lyle Lovett in concert

and I set up her online boutique Les Reves De Poisson.

There are so many things to see and do in Austin in is one of my favorite places.

The people are sincerely friendly and the vintage is stupendous!

I mailed myself some rather large boxes filled with fabulous vintage treasures.

I cant wait to show you what I found!

Vintage shops and thrift stores...Oh how I love them! A vintage shop is full of

vintage treasures, hand picked pieces that may or may not tickle your fancy.

A thrift store is full of stuff. A cornucopia of things, any thing.

Some old, some new. You never know what you might find

and sometimes when the Thrift Gods smile upon you,

you find a gem. That diamond in the rough

“ I can’t believe I just found a .................treasure.”

This vintage silk Armani blouse is one of those thrift store treasures.

Rescued from a thrift store and relocated to my closet.

This thrifted treasure makes me smile every time I wear it.

Fishin' Fishin' Fishin'

I learned to fish about a year ago. I had never fished before and had always found it quite intriguing. The idea of catching your own food, ruff and tough survival stuff. So when we moved to the sea learning to fish was at the top of my to do list.

I spent countless hours a day at the local fishing spot, with the real deal crusty fishermen. At first I was “that girl” actually I was the only girl. I was in the way and couldn’t bait my own hook or tie my own knots. Day after day, rain or shine, I was there with my trusty pole in hand. I became an eye bandit, carefully watching these expert fishermen with each cast, each bait of the hook, each knot. I soon grew on those crusty fisherman, learning, at their feet, like a grandson would, the secrets of these seasoned sportsmen.

This is a shot of my catch, a “Bonita”, (Bonita means beautiful in Spanish) on the day before Thanksgiving. A front had just come threw and the fish were biting! The Bonita were running and all the serious fishermen were out hoping to land one. Getting a bite was the easy part, landing a fish, that is where the skill comes in. Bonita are like bull dogs, they are a medium sized predatory fish related to the mackerel and tuna family. They are ferocious fish who hunt in packs and like to eat and run. When they hit and run, if your hook is in their mouth, the line screams off the reel and you had better hold tight! This particular Bonita ran me up and down the fishing Pier! I wrestled patiently with him for 20 minutes, a vigorous game of tug a war! I was one of three people who actually landed a Bonita that day finally earning my “Serious Fisherperson” merit badge.

On Thanksgiving day I was back for more! Out in the rain I landed this beauty. One of my fishing buddies Tao, who is an amazing fisherman and sushi chef, offered to show Zorian and I how to sushi filet my catch. He explained how Bonita is a staple like tuna in the Orient. For Thanksgiving dinner I made Sushi, all we could eat fresh from the sea caught with my own two hands sushi!! and it was amazingly delicious :)

You just cant find good lace cravats these days!

So, I decided to design the cravats of my dreams.

Lestat worthy lace confections, the kind I swoon over in period films.

Opulent & Extravagant!

This particular Cravat set, (cravat, scarf, and cuffs) I made with Vintage Chantilly lace.

Zorain hand distressed these boots, he created the perfect aged patina that I had been longing for.

I love them!

.......and the jacket, velvet with a glittery brocade print that sparkles like rhinestones in the sunlight.

Days That Last Forever

Today marks the beginning of my most favorite time of year. Labor Day being the last "beach holiday" after today the beach is unpopulated. I can walk for miles along the ocean and not see a single person.

From now until Christmas (that's when the snow birds start to come down) I have the beach to myself.

I was out treasure hunting and stopped in at a vintage shop.

I saw this jacket from across the room.

I made a bee line straight for it and snatched it up.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had never seen anything like it.

Nestled on a rack this beauty was patiently waiting to be discovered.

Luxuriously soft lamb leather marble dyed with sculptural ruffles,

lace detailing and 3D inlayed shells! It’s like a mermaid jacket,

encrusted with Piscean treasures from the sea.

I’ve been using Maybelline Lash Discovery Mascara in Brownish Black. It is perfect, the bush is Tiny and made of bristles, not rubber. I can get every little lash coated evenly with out poking my eye out. I'm in love with it and quite monogamous when it comes to my beauty products!
I went to the store to restock and it seems they are replacing my trusty beloved mascara with a huge wall of new choices none of which I am familiar with. Do you have any recommendations that might point me in the right direction. Trial and error is some what frustrating and any input would be greatly appreciated

Braid Day will be a post dedicated to the beauty of the braid. I learned to braid with 3 jump ropes tied together when I was 5. “three pieces, only one could be in the middle so each piece takes a turn.” I soon had the sense memory in my hands. The rhythmic fluid motion that one gets threw practice. I practiced on my dolls, myself, my long haired dog and any of my friends that would sit still.
A little while ago Zorian gave me a book filled with exotic braids. Some I had seen before and never knew how to do. I made it my mission to learn and practice each one. Here are a few more pictures from the other day. I love this little secret beach at the end of the island. It’s a rock beach sheltered by trees. The water is deep so the dolphins come right up to the edge of the sea. While we were there we paused to watch a pair, mother and baby, glide along the water line.

Diamond in the Rough

I was out treasure hunting and stopped into a tiny thrift store. Jam packed with odds and ends this thrift store was organized like a yard sale gone wild. Random things crammed and piled here and there with hand written price tags attached by safety pins, tape and colorful yarn.

As I made my way into the clothing “area” my spidey scenes began to tingle. Like a predator honing in on its prey I scanned. Moving in on an overburdened clothing rack in the corner. Half buried and hidden on this crowded rack I found a sad little knee length dress. I wrestled it from the wrack for a closer look. Bingo!! Gold Brocade now glistening in the the dim florescent light, this dress was so mine! Boned bodice, strapless, fully lined, bandage fit, it had all the ingredients for an amazing little number.

So I paid and rushed home, I was now on a mission. Busted out my scissors, needle, thread and some coffee. After some minor surgery this sexy gold brocade body con mini emerged, shimmering and sparkling in the sun light, my little diamond in the rough.

Welcome to my secret garden. An enchanted haven, where angel trumpets bloom, butterflies flit threw the sweet intoxicating smell of honeysuckle and jasmine, filling the air.

Petunias are great in pots, they explode with color and cascade.

Passion Flowers are exotic and they also make a delicious tea.

I keep my eyes peeled while treasure hunting for those elusive jeans that will make the penultimate exposed pocket cutoff shorts. I found these vintage Buffalo jeans and after a snip here and a cut there they magically transformed into exactly what I had been searching for. The exposed pockets are long and the fit is relaxed. I spent the other morning watching the 2010-2011 fall shows and I must say a few of them had me longing for winter. If you haven't checked them out yet here are a few of my favorites.

Hermes.....Dapper Street Steampunk with classic easy to find staples. Long black umbrellas, Derby, black tie white shirt, leather trenches, camel and black, silk top hats and leather waist coats
Dior.....Romantic Boudoir Steampunk Perfection. One of my favorite collections featuring chocolate leathers, frothy layers, OTK boots, over-sized Mad-hatter hats, ruffled OTK socks with ribbons and lace, fur bags and a beautiful blended color pallet of taupe ecru nude dusty rose gray and espresso. Also there were these whimsical layered pearl necklaces with wispy feather detailing I just couldn’t keep my eyes off them.
Balmain.....Steampunk Aristocrat. The jackets in this collection were Neo Victorian Perfection! Paired with sheer billowy ascot blouses and metallic brocade second skin pants. Ralph Lauren Collection.....Street Steampunk. This was an amazing collection by Ralph. Sheer billowy florals paired with fingerless lace gloves, bodysuits and textural cozy outerwear. I could Live in this collection. The noir beaded gowns were iconic and the faceted black beaded necklaces threw out are reminiscent of the Victorian and flapper era.

I'm a bustier and crinoline kinda girl. The sparklier and poofier the better! There is just something about that silhouette. If you've never worn the two together and your thinking right now....."I could never wear that..." You could! You should! You can!
